I am going to give you folks a progress report, a sort of "State of the 'Sentinel Sports' Address" or a report to the shareholders if you will.
Two things: we have a new sports section, a "WEEKEND WRAPUP" to be run every Monday; and you have a new sports editor.
I think this Weekend Wrapup looks great!
With tons and tons of sports taking place from Friday to Sunday, getting a few extra pages to deliver athletic news to you only makes sense.
And, since the cover is in color, putting as many "Plymouth Pics" as possible on the front page is a no-brainer. I'd be crazy to fill it up with words in plain black ink.
Some of you have already asked me something to that effect because I moved to Iowa from California. I'll reiterate that I am truly blessed and thrilled to by your new sports editor.
That's the second thing--I'm still brand spankin' new in this land of corn, ice cream capitals and cyclones.
Let's pretend something.
Pretend I've never lived until I've lived in Plymouth County--truth be told, I really like everything here so much I'm beginning to believe this myself. By my calculations, I turn a week old tomorrow.
Happy one-week Iowa birthday to me!
The point is, since I'm still very green with respect to the teams in this county, it will take me awhile to get up to speed.
I've seen copies of this newspaper from last year, and I hope I will be able to fulfill your appetite for sports as Jerry Giese did.
I finally met the man, the myth, the legend at The Lady Bulldog Invite Saturday, and he is a great guy.
I have no intentions of replacing him, nor will I try to fill his shoes. I'm the new guy, and he and I understand that everyone does things a little bit differently.
I would like you to be understanding. Please bear with me during the growing pains as I attempt to make Sentinel Sports the best section Delton Lowery and the rest of this newspaper's staff can make it. They have done an excellent job providing me with the tools necessary to put together this wonderful product.
I know this is the daily newspaper of Le Mars, but I also see it serves Plymouth County as well. I will get around to Akron-Westfield, Hinton, Kingsley-Pierson, Remsen St. Mary's and Remsen-Union soon.
As I familiarize myself, it will be easier to provide the coverage you deserve and have come to expect from the Daily Sentinel.
Have a great day!
