Murdered boy's mother is still missing

Friday, January 4, 2002
Law enforcement authorities continue to search for Lisa Boss of Remsen and Jackson, Mich., who is believed to be a material witness in the death of her adopted son, Timothy Boss.

In a news release issued Thursday afternoon, the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office said , Boss is believed to have valuable information concerning this case.

She is described as 5'4", 150 pounds, blonde hair and blue eyes. She is believed to be driving a 1998 Ford Windstar minivan with Michigan license VFY-734 and is believed to be traveling with nine of the children, ages 6 months to 15 years.

Law enforcement authorities say they are concerned for the safety and well being of the children.

Roger Munns, public information officer for the Iowa Department of Human Services, said Thursday that DHS has not had prior child abuse contact with the Boss family. "We have not had any complaints or investigations of this family," Munns said.

He indicated that the Michigan Family Independence Agency (similar to Iowa's DHS) has been in contact with the Iowa department for an exchange of information.

Law enforcement authorities believe Boss is headed toward Michigan and a nationwide bulletin has been issued asking law enforcement officials to stop the van. A material witness warrant has been issued by for Boss.

Although no body has been found, authorities are convinced Timothy Boss, 8, was murdered.

Plymouth County Attorney Darrin Raymond explained that belief is based on information from witnesses and from what Donald Boss said. Donald Boss, the boy's adopted father, is being held at the Plymouth County Jail on $250,000 bail, charged with first degree murder in Timothy Boss's death.

The boy was reportedly last seen about July 1, 2000.

The Plymouth County investigation began after a call from the Michigan State Police asking assistance concerning a missing person.

Officers went to the Boss home in Remsen and questioned a family member concerning the whereabouts of the boy.

"Investigators determined that the information provided was not consistent with what they knew to be factual and in turn notified Michigan police of those findings," said the Sheriff's news release.

At about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers returned to the home to clarify information and began interviewing Donald Boss. At approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday a charge of first degree murder was issued for him and he was taken before Associate Diustrict Court Judge Robert Dull Thursday morning.
