LE MARS -- Carrying a perfect game into the sixth inning, Le Mars' pitcher Molly Renken was on fire Thursday evening, as the Lady 'Dogs blanked Sheldon 6-0 to move to 2-0 on the young softball season. A walk to Sheldon's Caitlin Cain ended Renken's chances of a perfect game and a pair of singles by the Orabs' Krista Bousma and Audrey Gustafson ended her no-no in the seventh, but the senior maintained the complete game shutout, striking out 13 batters in the process...

AKRON -- With three wins in as many days, the Akron-Westfield baseball team has begun the 2013 season as hot as any team in the state. That's not to say the Westerners haven't been tested, however, as wins over Unity Christian and South O'Brien on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, were by a combined two runs after walloping Kingsley-Pierson in the season opener, 13-1. HINTON -- A four-run inning was the deciding factor in an otherwise close matchup between War Eagle Conference baseball rivals Hinton and Remsen St. Mary's on Tuesday. After both teams had come up empty in the opening stages of the game, the Blackhawks cut loose in the second inning and put a 4-0 lead on the scoreboard. Those runs proved to be crucial as both offenses remained quiet for the remainder of the game...
