Heart to Heart: Families walk through children's heart trials (04/28/11)
Plymouth Sioux Heart Walk Festivities begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by the walk. The 1-3-mile walk will be at Gehlen Catholic School's track, 709 Plymouth St. N.E., Le Mars. Everyone, including heart survivors, is invited.

Plymouth County's spring auction is this weekend with everything from a garage to shotguns for sale. Rescue teams pull man, dog from tree in river (04/28/11)
High, rushing waters in the Floyd River prevented a man and his dog from getting to shore until rescue crews arrived at the scene to help. Wednesday afternoon, the Le Mars man had apparently been walking along the recreation trail behind Wal-Mart in Le Mars when he went into the river to retrieve the dog, which was having trouble in the water, according to a Le Mars Fire-Rescue report...
Mayor encourages tree planting on Arbor Day (04/28/11)
Le Mars Mayor Dick Kirchoff is officially recognizing Arbor Day in Le Mars. Earlier this week, Kirchoff signed a proclamation naming April 27-29 as days to mark Arbor Day locally. In the proclamation, he urged Le Mars citizens to participate in tree planting and tree maintenance programs to "ensure a more beautiful Iowa and to nurture, protect and wisely use Iowa's trees."...

Ah, springtime in Iowa. If we aren't getting rain, we might be getting snow. If we are extremely lucky, as we were on Easter Sunday, we get to see the sun. Weather lore says that if it rains on Easter, there will be rain for the next seven Sundays. I don't believe we received rain on Easter, so perhaps things will straighten out...

Sunday is May 1, the start of a very busy month. From May Day to Memorial Day, the month is chock full of local and national observances. Throw in Mother's Day, Commencement and the start of baseball and softball seasons, and it is no wonder that many people will be scurrying around trying to make it to all of the events...
