Students design space settlement for NASA competition (03/18/11)
Designing a city in 21 hours. Sounds impossible, right? But 23 students from local schools attempted it this past weekend, and -- what's more -- the city they designed was for outer space. It was all part of the Johnson Space Center's Annual Space Settlement Design Competition March 11-13 at the Houston, Texas, site of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)...
FVH hosts forum on colon cancer (03/18/11)
With March being Colon Cancer Awareness Month, Floyd Valley Hospital will host a Colorectal Cancer Community Forum on Thursday, March 24. The community presentation will be held from 6-7 p.m. in the lower level Conference Center. Tami Kinney, of Lohrville, will lead the program. She will address the burden of colorectal cancer in northwest Iowa, cancer resources in our area and thoughts about cancer affecting the local community...
Hardee's is moving to southern Le Mars (03/18/11)
Hardee's in Le Mars will have a new home. Local owner/operator and general manager Houston Hartwig confirmed the Hardee's restaurant will be moving to the former Arby's in southern Le Mars as soon as June 1. "We want to give Hardee's a new, fresh look," said Hartwig, of Sioux Center. "We're going to completely remodel the building from the inside to the outside. Everything will be changed from the ceiling tiles to the floor tiles to putting up TVs and fireplaces."...
Council nixes extra dollars to move Main Street projects forward (03/18/11)
There are downtown renovation projects on the docket, but not enough dollars to get them all done, according to Mary Reynolds, Le Mars' Main Street director. Reynolds shared a list of the projects with the Le Mars City Council this week, asking for another $5,000 in Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) dollars to help with the projects this year and $30,000 from LOST for 2011-12...

Turn Around GK Blaze compete in Hiawatha (03/18/11)
The Turn Around GK Blaze gymnastics team traveled to Twisters Gymnastics in Hiawatha for a gymnastics competition on March 12. In Level 4, Tiffany Woerdehoff and Jayden Weiler represented The Turn Around. Woerdehoff finished third in the vault with a score of 9.50 and recorded an all-around score of 33.05 to finish 11th in the eight-year-old group...
