Fire department reorganization billed as beneficial (07/21/10)
The Le Mars Fire Department is adding an officer position to help shoulder the responsibility formerly carried by the assistant fire chief. Le Mars Fire Chief Dave Schipper brought the changes to the Le Mars City Council Tuesday, seeking support. "We have a full-time assistant fire chief position open which the city does not want to fill at this time," Schipper said after the meeting. "We're going to give some more responsibilities to volunteers to help fill that gap."...

Workers from the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Union Pacific Railroad replace railroad ties and rails at the Plymouth Street crossing in Le Mars. More than 200 tons of rock and asphalt was replaced under the rails to make a smoother, more even crossing for vehicles on Highway 3. The crossing is slated to be reopened to traffic on Friday...
