Insulation business stays busy as heating costs rise (10/21/05)
Brrr...Are you ready for a winter of higher heating costs? According to MidAmerican Energy, even if this year's winter is pretty normal for northwest Iowa, we'll still be looking at heating bills that are as much as 50 percent higher than a year ago due to spikes in natural gas prices...

Golf course clubhouse contract awarded (10/21/05)
Work on the 2005 Golf Course Clubhouse Addition project in Le Mars is underway following award of the contract by the Le Mars City Council on Tuesday. Bid was awarded to the lone bidder, Brown Commercial Construction Co. of North Sioux City, SD, for $353,000. The city will purchase about $28,000 in materials needed for the project, bringing the total cost to $381,000. Engineer's estimate was $380,000...
Le Mars' Spencer captures state berth on home course (10/21/05)
Senior Jordan Spencer of Le Mars Community finished seventh in 17:33.98 to earn the school's only state berth at a Class 3A District/Regional cross country meet Thursday in Brunsville. Spencer, in only his second year of running cross country of the Bulldogs, competed against a loaded field including two state-ranked runners and three ranked teams in securing his trip to Ft. Dodge. The Le Mars Community freshman football team was penalized 10 times for 141 yards and had three touchdowns called back in a game with Spirit Lake Monday, but the Bulldogs shook off the miscues to earn a 36-18 win over the Indians. The United States Agriculture Department is abandoning plans to close nearly a third of the 2,351 Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices, including 22 of the 78 offices in Iowa, after widespread opposition to plan surfaced in Congress. The plan was scrapped on Tuesday, two days before a hearing was scheduled on the plan, named "FSA Tomorrow."
