Giant ice cream cones arrive in Le Mars

All 31 giant ice cream cones and one cow sculpture have arrived in Le Mars and are ready for paint jobs.

The 6 foot tall fiberglass ice cream cones have been delivered to the homes of artists throughout Siouxland who will paint different designs on each cone.

The cones will then be placed around the community in front of businesses and at other sites this summer.

The cow will also be painted and placed in front of Dean Foods.

Another view of the second delivery of ice cream cone sculptures. Once the sculptures are painted, cones will go to Gus Pech Manufacturing in Le Mars to be clear-coated to protect the artists' work. Then they will be placed throughout town during the summer months. The public art project is being coordinated by the Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce, Le Mars Art Center, City of Le Mars Convention and Visitors Bureau and HYPER (Le Mars Young Professionals). Work began on the project in July of 2010 with Patrick Keough of American Fiberglass Animals in Shelton, Neb. Total project cost was about $47,000. (Photo submitted)
