Elizabeth Drilling, an artist from Peoria, Ill., puts finishing touches on her magical-looking creatures in a chalk drawing at the Olson Cultural Event Center.
Randy Becker and his son Jack work on a chalk portrait of Jimi Hendrix, a rock legend who died 40 years ago this year. Becker called his son the "hair specialist."
Shania De Boer, Emma Bixenman and Liz Bixenman, all of Le Mars, work on a groovy hippie drawing designed by Liz Bixenman at the second annual Le Mars Chalk Art Festival.
Colton Clouse, a senior at Le Mars Community High School, works on his "witty kitty" drawing at the second annual Le Mars Chalk Art Festival at the Olson Cultural Event Center Sunday. Clouse found the image on a T-shirt website.
One chalk drawing gave specific instructions: "STAND HERE" to viewers at the Chalk Art Festival in downtown Le Mars. The result: a 3-D effect with the shark drawing appearing to leap out of the water.
Matt Middendorp, son Isaac, 3, wife Lorayne Middendorp and son Ethan, 6, chose a square and started drawing colorful designs as a family at the 2010 Chalk Art Festival this past weekend. The event drew artists and families to the Olson Cultural Event Center.
Dancers from The Dance Studio in Le Mars perform a lyrical number on the stage at the Olson Cultural Event Center during Sunday's Chalk Art Festival. Artists and viewers alike said they enjoyed the day's entertainment.
