Unity Christian takes down MMCRU
By Allen Hamil, Sports Editor Le Mars Daily Sentinel MARCUS — Unity Christian came away with a pair of wins over MMCRU in War Eagle Conference action on Friday, January 4, 2019. The Unity boys left town with a 74-37 win in the first game of 2019 for both schools. The Knights had 11 players score points with Micah Goslinga coming off the bench to lead Unity with 13 points and five rebounds. Joel Johnson led all scorers as he put in 18 points for the Royals which included a 4-of-6 night from 3-point range. Cade Pepper, Robert Russell and Jordan Marks added five points apiece for MMCRU. Marks led the team with five rebounds while Russell led the way with three assists. The MMCRU girls led 19-17 after a quarter but fell 80-65 despite scoring above their season average. The 80 points was a season-best amount for the Knights who picked up their seventh consecutive victory with the performance. Four Unity players reached double digits with Janie Schoonhoven leading the team with a double-double where she scored 23 points and had 11 rebounds. The MMCRU girls shot 43 percent for the game, but the Knights were even better with a 64 percent success rate including a 57 percent mark from 3-point range. Individual statistics were unavailable for the Royals at press time. MMCRU returns to action at home against Trinity Christian on Tuesday. The girls (8-3) won the first meeting 55-31. The boys (2-8) lost their first meeting with the Tigers 56-42, but will look to exploit a Trinity team which has lost four consecutive.
