Students in seventh through twelfth grade sang and performed songs from multiple countries at the Lorne Nilles Memorial Gym on Wednesday, December 12th. The seventh and eighth grade band opened the evening with “O Tannembaum”, followed by a melody from France, and concluded with a “Christmas Parade” medley. The two bands were end caps to the choral portion of the evening with the high school choir, 7-12 choir and seventh/eighth grade choir. They sang “Still Nacht”, “Deck the Halls”, “Feliz Navidad”, “Mele Kalikimaka”, “Pat-a-Pan”, and “African Gloria”. Altogether their songs hailed from countries such as Wales, Germany, France, and Mexico as well as sounds from Hawaii and Africa. The concert concluded with a diverse, fun, and well performed group of pieces from the high school band. Their selections included, “Fum, Fum, Fum” (Catalan/Spain), “Christmas from Other Lands”, and “Frosty’s Caribbean Holiday”. The students put into a couple months of hard work to prepare their selections and learned about different styles of music from various countries in the process. They will be working on small group and individual performances this spring as well as preparing for large group contest and the spring concert on May 1st.
