Three different styles of magic were showcased at the fourth summer reading program at the Remsen Public Library on Wednesday, June 27. Larry Dunbar and Co. consists of Connor, who specializes in magic with live doves; Mike, the mentalist, and Larry Dunbar, teacher and professional magician.

Pictured above Connor performs a trick where a dove seems to come out of thin air. Connor is the youngest magician in Iowa. He started performing when he was three and a half years old and has been performing for over ten years. He has over 600 shows under his belt.

Larry Dunbar uses his magic to pass a balloon through the hoop.
-
Mike the Mentalist gets two volunteers from the audience to read each other's minds and pick the exact same card, the King of Clubs, for one of the tricks.
-
Larry Dunbar not only performs magic, but teaches it too. He taught the audience the very first trick he ever learned when he was seven years old, the thumb trick. Children in the crowd try their hand at the thumb trick.
-
Dunbar had one girl from the audience help him with a trick involving the magic bag.

This little girl helps Larry Dunbar with a trick by waving the magic wand.

Mike the Mentalist asks the audience to help pull this rope up tight for one of his illusions.
-
Mike the Mentalist turns the rope into a snake.

These two volunteers ended up picking one half each of the same card somehow.

These two girls help with the finale trick, sawing one in half.

A brave boy from the audience participates in a trick by Larry Dunbar that involved a sword.

This boy helps Larry Dunbar with a trick involving an orange. He picked a card in the beginning of the trick, ripping off a corner of the card, and that ripped corner ended up being in the middle of the orange. Pictured above, Dunbar prepares to throw a knife to cut the orange in half, but ended up not doing that and showing that the card was in the middle of the orange. No children were harmed in any of the magic tricks!
