WHALE of a Good Time at St. Paul Lutheran Church VBS

Thursday, July 28, 2016

On July 12-14, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen hosted a Vacation Bible School for all church denominations. Tuesday night started off with around 30 kids, six teachers, and six volunteers full of enthusiasm and excitement! The teachers and all the youth were ready to dive into "Deep Sea Discovery" to find out what they could discover about God and themselves. The nights started off with all the kids meeting together and practicing some songs and the theme verse; Genesis 28:15 "I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." Each night we gathered in our classrooms to discover how God is with us. There were five pillars that we went over in the three nights; God Knows Me, God Hears Me, God Strengthens Me, God Sends Me, and God Loves Me. Each pillar was tied to a bible story and verse. Once we made our discoveries about God, we would follow it up with a craft that tied into the lesson. Some of the crafts included a cross made with rubber bands, a cup made to look like a whale and you had to try and catch Jonah, pool noodle crabs, and handprints. On the last night, we had a small program where the kids recited the theme verse, sang " B-I-B-L-E", "Jesus is My Best Friend", and "Jesus Hokey Pokey". The program ended with Pastor Pete Peterson leading us in prayer and then followed with fellowship with all families. It was great to see all the kids eager to learn and all the excitement they brought with them each night.
