As the school year started, Mr. Toby Young and Mrs. Kayla Schroeder started a Student Leadership Team at Remsen-Union Schools. As a group, they took on a school-wide philanthropy project and chose St. Lukes Children's Miracle Network (CMN) because fellow R-U student, Florie Dahl, was this year's Iowa CMN Champion. Also, Mrs. Schroeder's life was recently impacted by CMN when her son was born prematurely. The Student Leadership Team set a goal of raising $6,000 during the school year for CMN. Every month a different project/event was held, which included some of the following: Hat Days for students, Jean Days for staff, CMN Extra Life MS/HS Game Day, Holiday Giving Tree, Pajama Drive, Paper Balloon Sales, Change Bucket Challenge, HS Dance Marathon Lockin, T-Shirt Sales, and many more. Overall, Remsen-Union went beyond their goal and raised a total of $6,761.00. Since R-U was the top fundraising school, St. Lukes CMN came to thank them for their efforts on Friday, June 3, 2016 with a surprise celebration for the whole school. The event included a speech from CMN Representative Amy Derby, a speech from Kara and Florie Dahl on how CMN has touched their lives, a total reveal of funds raised and then there was cake served and music listened to. Music was provided by KISS 107.1. The Remsen-Union Student Leadership Team would like to thank everyone who helped in reaching their goal this year. Congratulations on a great year of giving back, Remsen-Union!
