Galles Ordained Deacon
Andy Galles of Remsen, along with Matthew Solyntjes, a native of St. Andrews Parish in Sibley, was ordained a Transitional Deacon at the 10:00 a.m. Mass at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City on June 4, 2016. Andy is a Remsen St. Mary's graduate and credits Catholic education for planting the seeds of his vocation. He also pay tribute to his parents, Roger and Donna Galles, for suggesting and encouraging him in his path to the priesthood. He acknowledges many priests who have supported him in his vocation, in particular he named Father Bill McCarthy, St. Mary's Pastor, who introduced Andy to the diocesan vocations director, and Father Brad Pelzel, who was extremely helpful in discerning his vocation. Deacon Galles took time at the end of the Masses to thank the St. Mary's Parishioners for their prayers of encouragement and support as he follows his calling to the priesthood. As a Transitional Deacon, Andy is anxious to be of service to the people of God, and looks forward to honing his skills at delivering a homily. Deacon Andy will be ordained to the priesthood in the summer of 2017.
