A worker from Ahlrich Concrete, in Le Mars, snowblows the powdery white snow that fell on northwest Iowa this weekend. Winter seemed to finally arrive after a December of fall-like weather and a mild first half of January.

Three inches of fluffy snow adds a white ring to the field of Stars and Stripes in this public art ice cream cone creation by artist Jill Mitchell, of Le Mars, displayed at the intersection of Eighth Street and Central Avenue Southwest. The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls reports another 1 1/2 inches fell Sunday.

City of Le Mars Water Department staff today (Monday) is working to repair a water main break which occurred Sunday on Central Avenue South. City Administrator Scott Langel said some customers were initially without water service and the level of water stored in the city's water tower was lowered. The break was in the main on the west side of Central Avenue between the 500 and 600 blocks of Central Avenue South. A full report will be published in the Daily Sentinel Tuesday.
