I'm a Catholic school girl myself, and know the delights of a dress code.

For elementary school, we had to wear navy blue bottoms and white tops. Funny thing is, up until third grade, the guys didn't have to wear anything specific, just dress clothes.

Apparently the thought was the girls needed a level playing field as far as clothes.

And that the boys just used their clothes ON the playing field and ruined them and didn't care whether Dan or Joe's shoes were K-Swiss or K-Mart.

Which, by the way, is not true. I have brothers. They care.

Happy was the day when we graduated to 7th grade. We traded in those nasty navy blues for black. Beautiful black. And we could wear white pants if we wanted. Oh the freedom.

We probably looked like we were on the screen in "Casa Blanca" or an old Charlie Chaplin film. Or penguins. Or nuns. Or the beginning of a joke: "What's black and white and..."

But honestly, it wasn't bad. You really only had a few choices about what to put on once you got out of bed. And eventually, it's just normal. What a revelation: they're just clothes.

Besides, we had other rules to worry about at my school.

Like guys would get a $3 fine if they showed up to school in a beard.

Their argument: Jesus had one.

Good to hear from you donmcd!

They just gave the girls a razor and a bottle of shaving cream.

Or not.
