Voter Revolution: The Third PartyPosted Friday, October 29, 2010, at 8:32 AM
Tuesday, November 2nd, is a day for everyone 18 and older to have the chance to be able to "change" their country. To really "change" the direction of the country we as a people need to realize the importance of the "third" party. Although there are many "third" parties, they really can be ground into one, because they are barely ever recognized as anything else, in other words - "that other person running."
If you live in Le Mars, the third parties you will see on your ballot Tuesday are: Libertarians, NBP, IAP and SWP. Are these candidates worth voting for? I don't know. However, what I do know is that the people in Congress have not changed for as long as I have been alive. We don't like the democrats for what they've done in Congress the past few years, but when the Republicans last had control we didn't like them either. (Remember tin 2006 when the Democrats took control because the American public was tired of the Republicans?). To get real change in American we have to show these politicians the importance of the third party and vote for them and NOT the Republicans or the Democrats. Now you may say, "But I'm a registered Republican/Democrat." But does anybody know what that really means anymore? Yes we know Republicans are stereotypically known for lower taxes, anti abortions and being religious. Democrats stereotypically are known for gay rights, regulations, and separation of church and state. But have you ever heard the terms Far Right and Far Left? All grouped into these VERY WIDE parties, is the Far Right, the Far Left and those that lean toward the middle. This leaves the ideas of a few (the far right or left) being told mainstream with the people in the middle. In the end it's just a bunch of people with a title that like to fight "in the name of the party." But really, where does "the party" begin and end? Honestly, who really wants these whiners anyway? In an interview President Obama told Univision recently,"If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, 'We're going to punish our enemies and we're going to reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,' if they don't see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it's going to be harder." Republicans are just as much to blame as the democrats, for instance Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told the National Journal that "the single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president." Enough is enough. Do you want to be grouped by your president into being the enemy or the friend? Do you want to be part of party that says "the most important thing we do is kick people out of office?" We are Americans and we shouldn't be enemies, friends or other. The people we elect to office should be more concerned with what we think than kicking the other guy out of office. We, as Americans, should be known as the voting public. Period. We are the people that decide Congress' fate. And congress at this point has failed us. Even our first president knew this day was coming. The following quote from President Washington can be summed up in the words "Political parties will be the death of this country." "However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion. GEORGE WASHINGTON, Farewell Address, Sep. 17, 1796 So this Tuesday, and also in two years, give some serious thought on what kind of government do you want out of your country. Do you want the kind that says they want bipartisan politics but what they really do is fight, and vote for something because the other party doesn't want to vote for it? Or do you want to be part of a voter "revolution" and get rid of Congress as we know it and usher in a new generation of showing congress that We, the People of the United States of America maintain control of the laws that effect our every day lives. The best part is, it's all up to you! Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |
I started blogging about my fun experiencing parenthood and have found it has evolved into more than just parenting - its an observation of life as we know it. I'm a bystander in this country just as we all are, and sometimes, opinions just need to be said without fear of being burnt at the stake.

Hope.
NOV 2010.
Yes we can.
Throw them ALL out!
I would love to see viable third parties. Unfortunately it won't happen until we demand instant run-off voting.
