Not sure who this youngster is, but he is a third- or fourth-grader at RSM. The two squads battled each other during halftime of the girls varsity game.

Back from Remsen St. Mary's where the boys team assured itself of a winning season with a 71-64 win over visiting Hinton.

RSM co-head coaches Scott Ruden and Joe Schroeder were predictably excited after last year's team won just four games. The Hawks are now 11-9 on the season with one game left to play.

Skyler Higgins poured in 27 points, including a rare four-point play at the end of the first half. Tanner Kockler added 15 points and Beau Pick scored 13.

Tyler Stuerman had 23 to lead Hinton while Josh Schreck had 17 and Seth Butler found his 3-point stroke and chipped in 14 points.

The No. 6 Hinton girls came out with a vengeance after suffering their first loss of the season to Class 3A No. 1 Heelan on Tuesday.

The Blackhawks led RSM 39-9 at the half and went on to win 77-29. Hinton had four players in double figures, led by Mackenzie Small with 26. Ashton Moody scored 17 while Mallory Thoreson and Sadie Shuck had 10 apiece.

Moody did suffer an ankle injury near the end of the game, but did return to play before icing her ankle during the boys game.

Hinton coach Joel Small said he thought it might be a high ankle sprain, but obviously there was no prognosis as of yet.

Class 1A wrestling sectional meets are tomorrow. I will be up in Inwood with the Tuckers and Bethany will be in Milford. Check back tomorrow for a recap.

I am not a native Midwesterner, but I have now lived in Le Mars for a little more than a year and accumulated my share of Hawkeyes, Cyclones, Jays and Bulldogs clothing. Prior to moving here, I had been to Iowa a half-dozen times to see my relatives in Hull, so naturally I assumed everyone in Iowa was Dutch and Christian Reformed. I certainly never thought I would live here. I am a native of Mount Vernon, Wash., the hometown of NBA/MLB journeyman Mark Hendrickson, Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick (a high school teammate), actor Jim Caviezel, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates and most notably, Glenn Beck. Here you'll find (almost) daily updates, photos and ruminations about the sports scene in Plymouth County.
