Thursday's recap and StarsPosted Friday, February 5, 2010, at 12:55 AM
It was a slow night on the docket tonight so Bethany and I were both at Gehlen. She covered the games and I took the photos and video. Both Gehlen teams wound up victorious over visiting squads from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn. The Le Mars wrestlers were down at Sioux City North tonight where they got thumped by the Stars. Jose Camarena (215), Josh Munger (285), Anthony Schimek (135), Zach Reed (140) and Kelly Lind (189) all garnered wins in a 51-21 loss. Still haven't seen any news on the untimely death of the Sergeant Bluff-Luton football coach. The Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union came out with its final rankings today and Hinton dropped to No. 6 in Class 2A after a 38-point loss to Class 3A No. 1 Heelan on Tuesday. The complete rankings can be found here: http://www.ighsau.org/hoops/2010/bbranks... The Blackhawks are one spot ahead of Central Lyon, the team Hinton would face in the regional final if both teams are still alive. I talked to Jordan Sitzmann of Gehlen tonight and he confirmed that he did sign with Morningside College on Wednesday as a defensive back. Sitzmann said the staff has told him he can also continue as a placekicker if he wants. Sitzmann also said there will be an official signing ceremony next week since the staff is busy trying to find a new offensive coordinator and was unable to come up on Wednesday. Now on to Thursday's Stars: 1. Tyler Meyer, Gehlen boys basketball Meyer scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Jays defeated visiting HMS. 2. Drew Kellen, Gehlen boys basketball Kellen scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards in the Jays' win. 3. The Timmins sisters, Gehlen girls basketball Jessie Timmins scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds while younger sister Amber added 13 points of her own, including a 7-of-10 showing at the free throw line in the Lady Jays' win over HMS. |
Is this heaven? No, it's Iowa! ![]() - Archives - Blog RSS feed - Comments RSS feed - Login I am not a native Midwesterner, but I have now lived in Le Mars for a little more than a year and accumulated my share of Hawkeyes, Cyclones, Jays and Bulldogs clothing.
Prior to moving here, I had been to Iowa a half-dozen times to see my relatives in Hull, so naturally I assumed everyone in Iowa was Dutch and Christian Reformed. I certainly never thought I would live here.
I am a native of Mount Vernon, Wash., the hometown of NBA/MLB journeyman Mark Hendrickson, Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick (a high school teammate), actor Jim Caviezel, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates and most notably, Glenn Beck.
