I found a yellow Iowa sweatshirt for $2 at a used store in Sioux City and I am waiting to debut it until Thanksgiving. I also found and Iowa State t-shirt at a consignment shop in Sioux City and I wore it to work today. I have already suffered enough grief from my colleagues to consider hanging it back up in my closet and never wearing it again. However, I am used to rooting for 2-10 teams, so I feel very comfortable amidst the ridicule. Apparently it's a down year for land grant schools…although Penn State and Michigan State seem unaffected. I am now in the market for Drake and UNI shirts to complete my in-state wardrobe. If you have a medium or large and are considering getting rid of it, feel free to drop it off at the Sentinel office in Le Mars. Maybe we can even do a quick Q&A. I attended the Westwood Jamboree in Sloan last night with Sentinel freelancer Roy Tucker. The photos of Remsen-Union and Kingsley-Pierson in the paper? Yep, I took those. I'm still getting the hang of it and when you compare my photos to Roy's (or Bethany's for that matter) it becomes even more apparent how far I have to go. Still learning the mascots and finding my way around. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why Remsen-Union and Remsen St. Mary's -- two schools that are the same size and a block apart -- are not in the same conference. Oh well, I guess they will be next year. That's about all for now. |
Is this heaven? No, it's Iowa! ![]() - Archives - Blog RSS feed - Comments RSS feed - Login I am not a native Midwesterner, but I have now lived in Le Mars for a little more than a year and accumulated my share of Hawkeyes, Cyclones, Jays and Bulldogs clothing.
Prior to moving here, I had been to Iowa a half-dozen times to see my relatives in Hull, so naturally I assumed everyone in Iowa was Dutch and Christian Reformed. I certainly never thought I would live here.
I am a native of Mount Vernon, Wash., the hometown of NBA/MLB journeyman Mark Hendrickson, Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick (a high school teammate), actor Jim Caviezel, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates and most notably, Glenn Beck.
Here you'll find (almost) daily updates, photos and ruminations about the sports scene in Plymouth County.
