Houston, We Have a ProblemPosted Thursday, February 23, 2012, at 3:39 PM
How many hours do you suppose a major channel like CNN or FOX News would devote to the accidental death of, for instance, a half dozen Homeland Security Air Marshals? Maybe three, or four hours in total?
I'd guess not even that much, and it speaks volumes for (and against) our society that they spent hour upon hour, day after day covering the death, funeral and life of (one) Whitney Houston. I am a firm believer that TV gives viewers and sponsors what they, and apparently "we" want to hear, hear, and re-hear. So, they must think we want to hear and re-hear everything there is to know about dead substance abusers. They are accorded a greater status than true heroes ever are. Yes, I realize she was a fine entertainer, but a fine person deserving of such adulation? I think not. |
