Coach Van Den Bosch and Courtney after she signed her letter on Friday afternoon.

I took Friday off as my beautiful sister was in NW Iowa for a scholarship day at Northwestern College in Orange City.

I spent Friday afternoon wandering around the Rowenhorst Student Center and Bultman Center at NW as Courtney signed her letter of intent to play volleyball for the Raiders next fall.

We spoke with head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch as well as assistant coach Wayne Westenberg, who used to coach at Unity Christian, and both sounded very excited to have Courtney on the team. They had some volleyball girls in the gym, but the scholarship activities took too long and the gym was taken over by the men's basketball team before Courtney and the girls could play any volleyball. I think she was disappointed, but is very excited to come up here in the fall!

A few Friday night scores for those of you keeping track:

Le Mars girls defeated Cherokee 55-42 at Carey Gym. The Lady 'Dogs will be in Cherokee to face the Braves again on Monday in a game that has been rescheduled at least twice.

Gehlen's girls topped Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn on the road 53-38. The Lady Jays have Unity Christian at home on Monday for a Coaches vs Cancer night.

The Gehlen boys squeaked past the Eagles 44-43 to wrap up the week 3-0 with wins over Spalding on Tuesday and HMS on Thursday.

Le Mars topped Cherokee 59-40 in Lakes play and will have a rematch on Monday.

I'm going to enjoy a little more time with my sister before she heads home and I travel to Milford for some sectional wrestling action.

Watch for an update later tonight.

I'm a firm believer in the line "those who can't do, teach" - except that I don't teach, I write. I was never an athlete and I have the coordination of a one-year-old, but my passion for the game - any game really - is what drives me most. I was born in the suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisc., which is probably why I am a Packer fan. And I'm not one of those fans who likes the Packers when they are good and cheers for other teams from week to week or season to season. No, I am a die-hard - I bleed green and gold and I think the Cheesehead is one of the more stylish head-wear pieces ever created. After six years in Wisconsin, my family moved to Pella - where I consider to be my hometown. I went to Pella Christian High School - where I loved watching the sports! - and developed my love for photography and design. A side note - my sister (and one of my best friends) plays volleyball at Pella Christian, thus the occasional references to Eagles volleyball in my musings. I graduated with a degree in business and journalism from Northwestern College in Orange City in December 2007. I enjoy keeping tabs on my alma mater and the first teams I ever covered as a journalist. My brother plays football for the Raiders, so that adds even more incentive to continue bleeding red. Even though I am a sports-enthusiast of a seemingly male nature, I am also 100 percent girly-girl. I love shoes, purses and anything pink. Thus the blog title "Packer Pink and What I Think." I am quite the random person so I may vary from topic to topic, but at the end of the day, I'm pretty much just sports and pink.
