somethin' 'bout the number 4Posted Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at 1:00 PM
Good things come in fours. Since I was six years old, four has been my favorite number. Because in 1992, I began watching No. 4 create magic on the football field. But in the 17 years I've been watching Brett Favre dazzle the fans with his late-game comeback victories and hail Mary-esque passes, I've never seen it live in person. It's always been "Brett Favre in a box" - a TV box, that is. So last weekend I finally got my chance and I saw my beloved quarterback (even though he wears that ugly purple color now) play the best game of his career. Yeah, I'm not a Vikings fan, not even a little bit, but I really love to see Favre do well. And he did - tossing four TD passes and completing 22-of-25 attempts - the best in his career - as the Vikings defeated the Seahawks 35-9 on Sunday afternoon in the Metrodome. It was amazing to see the land that two years ago would have killed anyone in a green No. 4 jersey suddenly become so enamored that nearly everyone was wearing his name on their back. It was like Brett Favre-a-paloozah. Crazy. Adrian who? Yeah, it's Brett Favre country up there now. Jesse and I had a great time taking in all the Metrodome had to offer, although my co-editor was less than enthused with the quality of Brett's arm as it and the Vikings' defense literally shut down the Seahawks for the entire game. I just tell him that he can't cheer for any good teams - and then he gets really angry, so I wouldn't advice teasing him about that. Anyway, it was nice to get away from Le Mars for a quick weekend as our brief between season break is officially over tonight. Three girls basketball games are on the docket, including a home matchup between the Lady Bulldogs and Unity Christian. Of course, we are still chipping away at our fall All-Sentinel special section, which should be in Monday's paper. Keep reading from day to day as we preview all the winter sports and publish our final fall season reviews. Have a happy Thanksgiving - complete with pumpkin pie and football :) |
I'm a firm believer in the line "those who can't do, teach" - except that I don't teach, I write. I was never an athlete and I have the coordination of a one-year-old, but my passion for the game - any game really - is what drives me most.
I was born in the suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisc., which is probably why I am a Packer fan. And I'm not one of those fans who likes the Packers when they are good and cheers for other teams from week to week or season to season. No, I am a die-hard - I bleed green and gold and I think the Cheesehead is one of the more stylish head-wear pieces ever created.
After six years in Wisconsin, my family moved to Pella - where I consider to be my hometown. I went to Pella Christian High School - where I loved watching the sports! - and developed my love for photography and design. A side note - my sister (and one of my best friends) plays volleyball at Pella Christian, thus the occasional references to Eagles volleyball in my musings.
I graduated with a degree in business and journalism from Northwestern College in Orange City in December 2007. I enjoy keeping tabs on my alma mater and the first teams I ever covered as a journalist. My brother plays football for the Raiders, so that adds even more incentive to continue bleeding red.
Even though I am a sports-enthusiast of a seemingly male nature, I am also 100 percent girly-girl. I love shoes, purses and anything pink. Thus the blog title "Packer Pink and What I Think."
I am quite the random person so I may vary from topic to topic, but at the end of the day, I'm pretty much just sports and pink.
