It's basketball season already?

I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around this: it's basketball season already.
How can that be? I'm still caught up in figuring out which teams the BCS computer will pick to be national champion contenders and waiting for Iowa to crown high school football champs. I haven't touched my winter coat in at least a week and I only run my heat at night. I haven't even celebrated Turkey Day! How can it be basketball season? But tonight was the official high school kickoff as I traveled to Marcus for the annual MMC Jamboree. If you haven't been to a game in Marcus, you really need to get over there. The energy in that little gym is awesome, even without 50 Gehlen high schoolers singing "Rohe, Rohe, Rohe, Rohe..." Hats off to Lonnie Boekhout for creating such a fabulous atmosphere for high school sports night after night. I watched my first basketball game of the season on Tuesday as Jesse convinced me to watch Gonzaga play Michigan State. The 'Zags are a young team this year, but I think those Bulldogs will make a pretty fun season for their fans (hi Joe!) I can't say quite the same for the Hawks...it could be a struggle to watch the boys in black and gold this year. But at least we have football. Anyway, get out and enjoy the weather this weekend - who knows when that white stuff will bombard us and bury the greater Siouxland area for four to six months. If you're heading East to watch high school football, have a blast. The Dome is awesome and it should be a great weekend of high school football. Whatever your weekend plans, enjoy! |
I'm a firm believer in the line "those who can't do, teach" - except that I don't teach, I write. I was never an athlete and I have the coordination of a one-year-old, but my passion for the game - any game really - is what drives me most.
I was born in the suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisc., which is probably why I am a Packer fan. And I'm not one of those fans who likes the Packers when they are good and cheers for other teams from week to week or season to season. No, I am a die-hard - I bleed green and gold and I think the Cheesehead is one of the more stylish head-wear pieces ever created.
After six years in Wisconsin, my family moved to Pella - where I consider to be my hometown. I went to Pella Christian High School - where I loved watching the sports! - and developed my love for photography and design. A side note - my sister (and one of my best friends) plays volleyball at Pella Christian, thus the occasional references to Eagles volleyball in my musings.
I graduated with a degree in business and journalism from Northwestern College in Orange City in December 2007. I enjoy keeping tabs on my alma mater and the first teams I ever covered as a journalist. My brother plays football for the Raiders, so that adds even more incentive to continue bleeding red.
Even though I am a sports-enthusiast of a seemingly male nature, I am also 100 percent girly-girl. I love shoes, purses and anything pink. Thus the blog title "Packer Pink and What I Think."
I am quite the random person so I may vary from topic to topic, but at the end of the day, I'm pretty much just sports and pink.
