Brett Favre drama drama

Well I have spent...oh however long since the "Brett Favre has an 'itch' to come back this season" pandemonium started trying to figure out how I really and truly feel about the situation.
I have officially dubbed the whole situation "Brett Favre drama drama" due to the high school-esque actioins on both the future hall of fame quarterback's and entire Green Bay Packers organization's parts. (Ok that grammar was terrible, but I am house sitting my friend's dogs and they are driving me crazy, so I don't even care about my grammar right now!) Anyways... Brett Favre wants to play football again...still...whatever. That should not be construed as negative news. In fact, the Packers organization should be EXCITED that their all-star quarterback wants to keep the reigns in his hands another season. If you recall, last season the Packers were basically one pass from the big dance. Due largely in part to...da da da...Brett Favre. And even if that isn't enough to convince you that Favre returning for another season could bring another championship to Titletown...let's talk about Favre's "replacement" if you will... Aaron Rodgers. No question Rodgers was an excellent college quarterback, but that was how many years ago? And yes, he has spent his entire NFL career observing and learning from the legendary Brett Favre. But let's be honest, the kid is injury-prone. Maybe more than just injury prone. He hasn't started a game and yet he's been injured how many times since he was drafted? We (that is, the general public) have word from the superstar quarterback that he would be willing to come back and play if Rodgers got injured and sidelined for the season, so clearly injury is on the minds of most when it comes to Rodgers in the hot seat for the Pack. So there, two excellent reasons for Green Bay to keep Favre in the driver's seat, running the game we all know he excels at and even more, is still able to play at a highly competitive level. Many commentators have put Favre in the No. 3 or 4 spot as of late. In fact, I believe only two NFL QB's are better than Favre at the present time...Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Those three are the only PHENOMENAL quarterbacks in the league. Then you have Eli (the less impressive although he does have a Super Bowl ring) Manning, Tony Romo and a handful of other good quarterbacks, but Favre could take them, not a problem. Of course, there are a bunch of ball clubs looking for someone to run their offense, to lead them, to bring them a championship--whether division, conference or league. And Favre could do that. Will he? Doubt it. The Packers don't want him--they have made it quite clear that Aaron Rodgers is their QB this season--but they don't want him to play anywhere else either. They want the best of both worlds (insert cheesy Hannah Montana song here). Blah blah blah I could keep going, if you follow the NFL...or sports...or news even, you have heard all of this. Favre was on Greta Van Susteren's show on Fox News Channel for goodness sake! Clearly the whole drama drama drama is on the minds lips whatever of most Americans who are in the loop. So what do I think? Honestly, I still don't know. Would I like to see Favre play for GB again this year? Of course! I'm not stupid. Every football season that I can clearly remember, Favre was in the huddle, leading the Pack and entertaining Cheesehead Nation. I think both the Packers and Brett Favre are being selfish. Favre can't make up his mind, hence the high school girl drama drama drama. But if you have ever seen Favre play, you know his play is sometimes quite childlike, changing his mind, making hasty decisions that don't quite work out, etc etc. So does his decision to come back surprise me? No. What does surprise me is the Packers not wanting him. And the Packers acting just as drama drama and high school girl as Favre. So I guess what I think is that Favre and the Packers both need to grow up and change into their big boy underwear and make a decision already. Green Bay--either take him or leave him. If you don't want him, let him go. Will it come back to hurt you? I'm sure. But you didn't want him. Let's just stop all this talk and drama and play some football already! |
