Ahh the NFL draft. A beautiful highlight to the somewhat mundane spring sports season.

I'm a huge football girl. Yes I love all sports, but I feel like as soon as the Super Bowl is over, I'm counting down til the next football season.

So the draft is always an exciting time because it means we are getting closer and closer to the preseason kickoff in August.

Sadly, this offseason, I have been disappointed with the choices of the Packers.

The Green and Gold are pretty reliable in their "doing nothing" during the offseason year after year, so really, I don't expect much. Plus, we were great last year. Not much need for improvement.

However, the retirement of the great Brett Favre put a slight damper on the NFC North Champion Packers. I don't foresee Aaron Rodgers leading the Packers to the same success in 2008 as Favre and his young team were able to accomplish in 07.

Plus the fact that Rodgers seems to be injury-prone. In the handful of games he's seen action in since that Pack drafted him, he's managed to get hurt at least a couple times. What's going to happen when he starts every week of the season?

Let's face it, very few, if any, QBs are as tough as Brett Favre.

So when the free agency started, I was expectantly waiting for the Packers to sign a veteran QB--you know, to mentor Rodgers as he starts his first full season, to step in and get the Pack back into the game, whatever necessary to make sure the Packers don't fall on their face this season.

Instead, the powers that be chose to draft a couple rookie QBs this weekend. As an avid fan, I'm not sure how comfortable I am with the pretty much unexperienced in the NFL Rodgers being backed by a pair of rookie ZERO experience QBs. Not feeling too great about the upcoming season, to say the least.

But I am trying not to jump to conclusions so soon. Maybe Rodgers won't get hurt. Maybe McCarthy will work wonders with these rookies.

But one thing is for sure, if Favre would come out of retirement to save the Packers after Rodgers gets injured (its inevitable, really--the injury that is), I think my level of respect for the great No. 4 would drastically drop.

Favre, we will miss you, yes, but please, once you retire, stay retired. I'm sure he will, but you really never know.

So...those are my thoughts on the offseason. Rambling and uninteresting, I am sure, but hey, it's what I think :)
