With the Final Four teams locked in place, basketball season is tumbling closer and closer to THE END.

And I could not be more disappointed with the way it is ending.

Yes, the beginning was exciting. I'm talking about the opening round of the NCAA tourney, with a pair each of 12 and 13 upsets. Even the second round, with underdog teams like Davidson advancing. But the Sweet 16 was a major let down. None of those games were even close!

The only thing I can hope for with all four number one seeds in the Final Four is that the games will be good, exciting and close!

Even when I was a student at Northwestern, attending women's basketball games, watching Deb Remmerde and the senior starters lead the Raiders to a 30+ point victory margin time and time again got a little dull. Yes, I was happy we won. But, come on, give us a little fight sometimes!

Thus said, if the Final Four games turn out to be exciting, I will be okay with the fact that all the teams are top seeds. I will even be okay with the fact that my bracket has been screwed up since the second day of the tournament.

But if either of those games, or the championship, is a blowout, I will be disappointed. In any other scenerio, I'd ask for my money back.

But in this case, I'll just ask for one thing: football season.

Nothing is as exciting, as exhilarating as the 17 weeks of the NFL regular season and the month of playoffs that follows.

So with the end of basketball season, the second best season of the year, comes at least one good thing. It's one season closer to football season again.

So now, against the liking of many of my friends, I will say it--may summer come quickly and leave just as swiftly, bringing football fall to the present!

(But maybe the warmth and sunshine can stay??)
