Granted, I work at night so I miss most of it but I am constantly on the internet keeping up with scores and medal results and the like. Last night I was fortunate enough to watch the US women's gymnastics team and I was amazed. What those girls do is absolutely incredible. If I attempted that - at my ripe old age of 22 - I would break a collarbone and would suffer from a damaged self-esteem. However, I do have a bone to pick with the Olympics. There is no way on this green earth that some of those young ladies representing the Chinese gymnastics team were 16 and older. I felt like I was watching my little cousin compete and I do believe she's only six at the moment. (Sorry, I'm a horrible cousin.) I do believe that one girl in particular - I don't dare attempt to spell her name. I would butcher it as much as mine is butchered - looked to the ripe old age of nine. What happened to the art of sportmanship? These girls are supposed to be 16 and I am calling it now: the Chinese Olympic Federation will be exposed for a scandal involving the use of underage girls in competition. I am boy/man enough to admit that the Chinese Olympians were fantastic. The US squad headed by Iowan Shawn Johnson represented themselves and the states well. If the Chinese participants are in fact 16 and older, then I'll admit that I was wrong. Hopefully any necessary justice will be served. |
