Last night I was flipping through the channels before bed and I caught the tail end of D2: The Mighty Ducks. It is my favorite sports movie so naturally, I watched it. Like my kids of my generation, I was a big fan of the Mighty Ducks' series (minus the third one - it was terrible). It is rare to go to a roller/ice rink without hearing someone yell "Flying V" or "Quack...quack...quack.." It's like music to my ears. Emilio Estevez was at his finest and probably did his finest work as Coach Gordon Bombay in this movie (narrowly edging out his work in "Men at Work" with actor brother Charlie Sheen). All of this got me thinking that maybe I blog about my top 10 sports movies of all-time. Without further ado and in no particular order, here we go:

1) Mighty Ducks 1&2- I mentioned the 2nd movie above but the first was a good lead into the sequel and the storyline about Gordon Bombay was classic. Made me want to learn the sweet "triple deke."

2) Field of Dreams - I know it's a cliche favorite but Kevin Costner going after Moonlight Graham is just fantastic. Plus, any movie with James Earl Jones and his booming voice is an instant classic.

3) A League of Their Own - I know it might seem like a chick flick but anyone who watches this movie and doesn't laugh at Tom Hank's work as the team's manager needs a humor transplant.

4) Sandlot (the first one - to me, the second one doesn't exist) - "You play ball like a girl!" Enough said.

5) Blue Chips - Nick Nolte was awesome in this movie and it was nice to see Shaq and Penny Hardaway in their primes when they could actually play basketball.

6) Slapshot - The Hanson brothers make this movie an instant class. If you go to any Sioux City Muskies games, they'll show clips and the crowd goes nuts. Nerds who play hockey and with toy cars? Should have won an Oscar...or not.

7) Caddyshack - Rodney Dangerfield & Noonan! vs. the Judge vs. the gopher. One of the best golf movies of all time.

8) Remember the Titans - Great acting and inspiring moments. A tearjerker, if you're into that kind of thing.

9) Hoosiers - Best movie to inspire any athlete to wanting to win more than anything.

10) Miracle - Just watch it. That's all I can say.

Honorable mention: Brian's Song (the original), Friday Night Lights, Bull Durham, Tin Cup, Rudy (was hard to leave this one out), Prefontaine.
