Bipartisan disillusionment

I'm not that excited about the upcoming election. I'm not that excited about any candidate. I'm excited to get rid of the current president, but I just don't feel like the new options deliver a lot. All the money being thrown around is a big factor in how I'm thinking about all of this.
Today I was just looking around at the candidates websites. I noticed on John McCain's merchandise site, that although they have an eco-friendly section (which is of course not totally in concordance with what he stands for), everything is overpriced. It is made in the USA though. That's pretty neat.
The first thing you see when you go to Obama's site, is a large DONATE NOW button. Go to his merch shop, and again you have a lot of overpriced swag. His merch is union made in the USA, which is even better, although it's not eco-friendly. I guess I can settle.
Hillary's site greets you with an offer to join her team, then the second page of the site invites you solicit votes by calling random people. Her merchandise says "union printed" and "made in the USA" too. Things are a little more reasonably priced there.
I understand that purchasing merchandise acts as a donation to their candidacy, but if you want to buy a shirt just to show your support, can't you get a markdown? I don't want to donate any money to any of them because they'll get enough of it when they're in office. Then I got to thinking about the American presidential race. What a waste of time and money. You have these two groups of peddlers begging for money so they can blow it by flying across the states to talk, not so much about themselves, but how much their opponent sucks.
Am I being too negative? Maybe. I'm just going to put in my vote for Obama (I also shop at Target rather than Wal*Mart. See: the lesser of evils) and collect my change. Or hope. Or whatever the tagline is.
On a happier note, I'm back to biking to work. If you want to know what the best way to fight gas prices is, hop on a bike. I live 13 miles away from where I work, and I couldn't be happier with my daily excursion. I rode the morning on paved trails, and rode home on dirt trails. My only complaint is confused motorists that don't understand hand signals. It doesn't bug me though, I'm pretty conscious of what's going on around me to make the ride safer for me and everyone else. I might try to throw together some statistics of how I'm saving money, and the world.
I'm going to go running now. Good night!
