Flesh Eating Zombies and Slovenian Philosophers

That's not all that's going on! Seriously! But yeah. I have a lot of zombie movies and slovenian philosophy to catch up on!

I have a special place in my heart for the undead. I'd say 1 out of every 3 dream I have is dominated by the idea of a zombie apocalypse. The most thrilling scenario took place the same time as a tornado. Imagine that! Struggling to get to high ground to avoid brain hungry reanimated corpses, accompanied by the need to stay low with a twister coming towards you. Plus, zombies flying through the sky like projectiles!

Speaking of tornadoes, the weather here has been atrocious. Last night there were tornadoes somewhere. I guess. We heard the alarms and we ummm, played cards and then went and played in the rain. Really, the danger wasn't imminent. Obviously. The rivers are really high, and everyone's dropping 1993 like it's hot. I'm practically unaffected, except our ultimate frisbee field got flooded and now we have to play in a smaller area. Bummer.

Speaking of ultimate frisbee, the season is currently in session! I haven't traveled any yet, but hopefully will. I haven't officially joined a traveling team, but there's talk of me joining two? Maybe. I think... I'm just uncertain about a lot of things. Oh, and this year will be the second year debut of Le Mars' Team Backseat. We're putting together a strong line up with a couple new faces. Click here for last year's Le Mars Daily Sentinel story.

Oh, and speaking of traveling, I'll be doing a lot more of that this summer. Indianapolis 500 was actually really interesting. I'll admit, I've never been interested in auto racing, but this first time was a good experience. And there's a huge, noticeable difference between Indy cars (totally unrelated - I just accidentally closed this tab completely deleting everything I wrote above leaving me empty inside, until I realized it was easily retrievable) and Nascar cars. It won't be my last race either!

Oh yeah, and Slovenian philosophy. It has less to do with Slovenia as it does the flavor of philosophy that comes from a select group of philosophers I enjoy reading. It's actually a nice respite from what I have been reading lately, which is mostly Pentti Linkola. He believes in the obliteration of the human race to save the planet. It seems impractical, but it accentuates the extreme that mirrors the extreme on the other end, which is ignoring the environment to perpetuate economic gain. So we must meet somewhere in the middle of extinction and destruction.

Anyways, I must get back to my zombie/western movie. What a brilliant mix! To help illustrate how amazing it is, there are zombie cowboys scouring the desert in search of a renegade trio consisting of a cowboy wannabe, a westernized Native American woman, and a dentist! This is deep!

Tonight starts a nice five day weekend for me. I'll be en route to Indianapolis for the 92nd running of the Indy 500. I've never been to any automobile racing event, so it will certainly be an experience. I'm pretty excited. Magdalene Biesanz's article about Well's Blue Bunny not meeting their job quota made it to the Des Moines Register yesterday via Associated Press. ...

I'm not that excited about the upcoming election. I'm not that excited about any candidate. I'm excited to get rid of the current president, but I just don't feel like the new options deliver a lot. All the money being thrown around is a big factor in how I'm thinking about all of this...

I want to start this first blog entry with a few statistics. In polls of the polls, 100% of people who described their occupation as Slave, sex slave, wizard, and pizza guy voted for Ron Paul. One American child generates as much CO2 as 106 Haitian babies...
